What makes a great app?

Want to know the best way to engage your customers?  Take a look at what Domino's Pizza did when they revamped their online ordering system.  Instead of just taking your order through a form they decided to make it an experience of it's own.  You have a rich form done in Flash that builds your pizza visually as you check off items.  They have a coupon window that comes up when you're about to order that offers last minute specials and when you're done you get an interactive timeline that shows exactly what condition your pizza is in throughout the process.  "Juan started making your pizza at 3:45pm"  "Your pizza went in the oven at 3:51pm".   Smart marketing told them don't stop there.  They also give you a single-player game to play while you watch the timeline and they collect feedback along the way with a polished feedback form that feels more like a game than a form.  Overall this should be the gold standard for any type of online ordering experience.  Well done Domino's.
